OGSM in a new look: The OGSM and action overview have received a new appearance. The overview is more compact and cleaner. We can display more information on screen without it becoming cluttered.

Overview of an OGSM

Ask the AI assistant your questions about OGSM.online: The help function has been expanded with an AI assistant. The assistant is trained on all help articles and can answer questions about OGSM.online’s functionality. But of course you can also always send us an email. Click on the blue question mark in the bottom right corner.

Strategy owner is the default owner for actions without an owner: In an OGSM, every action must have an owner. Haven’t assigned an owner? Then we consider the strategy owner as the action owner. This applies, for example, in the ‘My actions’ overview or when you filter by owner.

Don’t show comments to _ Viewers _ : The platform administrator can turn off certain parts of the OGSM for the Viewer role, such as progress reports and actions. It is now also possible to hide comments.

October 2025

Mobile app: OGSM.online is now available as an app. This makes working with OGSM even more accessible. Download in the Apple App Store or the Google Play Store.

Report with better overview: We have improved the formatting of the report. The design is cleaner and focuses on the information that really matters.

Timeline shows the current month: In the timeline we highlight the current month.

Other changes:

Editing a link (e.g. to place an action in multiple OGSMs) has been improved.
The chart for an indicator is no longer displayed if there is text in the measurement values.
The history for items (such as an action) has become clearer.
If you type a URL in a report or comment, it now automatically becomes a link.
Minor bugs fixed.

Mobile view: You can also use OGSM.online on mobile. We’ve reviewed and improved many screens.

Project sponsor and project manager: For projects, you can now record the project sponsor and/or project manager. Other changes:

When generating actions with AI, using the indicators as input is now the default option.
All icons are just a bit fresher and better.
In many places, we’ve made the platform just a little more convenient, faster, or safer.

Faster switching between OGSMs or teams: Many users only use a limited number of OGSMs and teams. That’s why we now show your recently used OGSMs and teams, so you can quickly select them. Click on ‘Select other OGSMs/teams’ to see all available OGSMs or teams.

Better update email: The update emails have gotten a new look. For each OGSM you now see the important dates (e.g. upcoming deadlines), new progress reports and comments, and other changes.

Better overview when adding a link: You can link parts of your OGSM to other OGSMs. For example, you can show an action on multiple OGSMs. We’ve made the interface for this much more convenient.

Other changes:

The toolbar (with bookmark, filter, etc.) now stays visible when you scroll down.
Are there multiple action review sessions or strategy review sessions on the same date? We now bundle all notifications in one email. This way you don’t get multiple emails in one day. And the email only contains links to overviews that are relevant to the user.
When you set an action as a strategy in another OGSM, this strategy gets the same label as the strategy above. So the label is also cascaded.
And of course we’ve fixed various bugs here and there.

June 2025

Previous action deadlines visible in timeline: How many times has the deadline been moved? You can now see previous deadlines in the timeline.

View current and upcoming annual plans: Often a new annual plan is limited to new actions only. The new bookmarks ‘Actions this year’ and ‘Actions next year’ give you a quick overview of which actions are scheduled when.

Notification when filter is active: Every now and then we get the question: “Where have my actions gone?”. Usually it turns out a filter is active. We now show a clear notification when filters are active and return no results.

Visual overview of teams and OGSM: We’re introducing a new view when selecting teams and OGSM. You can choose the view yourself. The view is only visible when the organizational structure is set by the administrator.

Insight into impact and effort of actions: It has been possible for some time to score actions based on added impact and effort. We have made the scores visual in the ‘Impact/effort’ view. This way you can immediately see what the quick wins, major projects and small improvements are. And which actions you need to reconsider.

Add existing action as sub-action: You can now add an already existing action as a sub-action. Adding a new action as a sub-action was already possible.

A dedicated OGSM for an action: If an action is a program or project, you can create a dedicated OGSM as a project plan. You can now add an action as an Objective to an empty OGSM. Any sub-actions are visible as Strategies in this OGSM.

Bugs and improvements: As every month, we have fixed small bugs and implemented improvements.

OGSM checklist: How can you improve your OGSM? We’ll help you get started with a useful checklist and a score for the OGSM. Click on the score to view the checklist.

Repeat action and strategy review sessions: From now on, you can set action and strategy reviews to repeat automatically, for example every quarter. This way, you’ll never forget a session or its preparation again.

Repeat actions: The customized repetitions have also been added to the OGSM actions.
Only the most used options visible: Less is more. That’s why we only show the most important options in the menu and filters. Click on ‘More options’ to see everything. Above the report, the dashboard is no longer displayed. You can make it visible via the ‘Components’ menu.

Create your own checklist for actions: In the description of items in the OGSM, you can now create a simple checklist, for example for an overview of action results. Edit the text and use [] for a checkbox and [x] for a checked item. When viewing the description, you can also directly check off an item.

Checklist for administrator: The settings for administrators are more organized and have a useful checklist. Changes are now also saved automatically.

Generate OGSMs with AI. You can now generate objectives, strategic choices, indicators, and actions. How this works can be seen below or you can read about it in this article.

The administrator can enter general information (such as main activities and sector) to make the AI assistant even better.

User groups have been optimized.
For OGSMs with many actions, the action view will now be divided into 500 actions per page, so loading pages becomes faster. Use filters to get the actions you are interested in on one page.

Get the right information on screen instantly during action review sessions and strategy review sessions? Use the new bookmarks.
Easily create and view connections. When looking at an item in the OGSM, you can now immediately see where this item appears. You can also easily link items to other OGSMs, allowing you to include a goal or action in multiple OGSMs.

Quickly gain insight into actions without a traffic light. We’ve added the ‘empty’ option to the filter.

The team overview has been improved. You can now see the teams that matter to you in one view. Select them using the ‘Teams’ button.

Additionally, we’ve fixed some minor bugs and made improvements to make the platform even more convenient to use.

Various screens have been optimized for speed. Let us know when you encounter a slow screen.
The OGSM export to Excel now also includes all underlying goals, indicators, and actions.
The status of your OGSM will now also be visible in the team view. Additionally, a notification about the new status will appear at the top of the OGSM after each status change.
The colors and fonts have been revised for better contrast and readability.
Searching for a strategies or action in various dropdowns has been improved by grouping them by team and OGSM name.

November 2024

Actions can now also be marked as a project or program (field: “Type”). This brings several extra fields into view, such as budget, results, risks, and dependencies.
Actions have a new priority field that can also be used for sorting.

In addition to the priority field, the display of an action on the OGSM has also been improved so that, for example, the added value and effort are more recognizable.
If you set an OGSM to ‘Not active’, it can no longer be edited. This prevents people from making changes or reporting in the wrong OGSM.

Oktober 2024

Less frequently used fields in actions are now hidden by default. It is remembered per user whether “Show all fields” has been selected.

The strategies are now displayed expanded by default.
Exporting OGSM to Excel has been revised and now includes multiple OGSM overviews and also extra tabs with data that was previously unavailable.
Archived subitems no longer appear by default when opening the main action, but can be activated with a toggle.

Archived subitems are now displayed by default when opening the main action.
In the title of, for example, a strategy, you can now put words between ** to make them bold.
In many places, a question mark with an explanation has been added so that you can immediately see what something is for.

Median has been added as an aggregation method when using sub-goals or sub-kpis.
New fields that have been added recently have also been added to the API.
The list views can now also be grouped.
Progress reports have been expanded with a field “decision” to record decisions.
The page with all objectives now also features an overview that allows the objectives of the entire organization to be shown in a tree structure.

New type of chart for indicators and goals that allows comparing measurements per quarter.
Target values of underlying items are passed upwards using the same chosen method of aggregating measurements upwards.
Target value can be imposed from main item and will then appear on all sub-items.
Readability and recognizability of titles has been improved in various places.
Filtering on goal fields has been added.
Actions can now be created based on a deadline to recur every week, month, or year.
Filtering on “in progress” will now also show actions with status “to do” that should have already started because the start date or deadline has passed. This makes it easier to find actions that need to be reported on.
The trash has been moved to the main menu and teams, tabs, and tools are now also first stored in the trash for 30 days before being permanently deleted.

Comments and reports are now saved in the background as drafts so you can finish them later.
Indicator and goal target values added at the main level will also be created at the sub level if the calculation is set to “average.”

The term “indicator” has been changed to “KPI” as it is more generally used by most companies.
Reporting has been made faster when subactions are hidden.
Creating and then editing immediately afterwards will now be shown as a single item in the history and notification email instead of two separate items.
Sub-goals and sub-indicators are now also displayed while reporting.
Summing sub-goals and sub-indicators has been made configurable, for example, an average can now also be taken.

Changes to OGSM items are now automatically saved, there is no separate save button anymore.

Changes to OGSM items made within 5 minutes of each other by the same user will now be consolidated into a single notification and a single entry in the history view.
Icebox items are now hidden by default in the reports screen as well.
Progress bar for actions has been made clearer.

A new “list” view for actions makes it easier to edit multiple actions at once. Editing a single action is also faster to do in that view.

Actions now contain two new fields effort and added value which can also be used to sort.
Filters now open next to the OGSM instead of overlapping with it.
Chosing which OGSM you’re viewing has been moved from the filter menu to a separate button on the toolbar.

Opening actions with a lot of sub-actions that are spread amongh many different OGSM’s has seen a big speed increase.
Filtering by assignee or label now also works for sub-actions.
Sub-actions without assignee will now show up when the upper action is filtered by assignee. Because of this you won’t have to assign all sub-actions to an assignee any longer.

We have a new toolbar. This way, we make the filter and display options more accessible. You can immediately see that, for example, a filter is active and with one click you can undo the filter. Use the bookmarks to quickly get an overview. You can also create your own bookmarks.

Filters and display settings are now applied directly instead of having to apply them with a separate button.

Ability to cascade an OGSM as strategy in a higher level OGSM.
Gantt chart of actions now displays more information and supports sub-actions.
Actions are now sortable in reports using the eye-icon in the top right.
When editing an action you can now search by name in the assignee field instead of having to scroll through the list manually.

We are introducing sub-actions. You can create child actions for an action. E.g. projects in a program. Each action and sub-action has its own details (such as deadline and owner) and progress reporting.
When selecting ‘All OGSM’s’ in the filters of the report or the action plan you now only get the OGSMs that are set on ‘Draft’ or ‘Active’.
We have adjusted the permissions to edit the OGSM. If the OGSM is on ‘Draft’ state, Participants can now edit the entire OGSM instead of just the items they own.

March 2023

Want to see immediately how things are going with the indicators? That’s possible: open an indicator and you will see the target values and measurements in a graph.
It is now also possible to display the indicators in a graph with the OGSM report. To do this, check the box in the display settings (use the button with the eye at the top right of the screen).
The progress report now also shows the change date and the person who changed the report.
The menu now works even better on mobile.

February 2023

Dragging an action or indicator to another strategy was quite precise. You can now just drag them to the correct column.
The rights of draft OGSMs have been relaxed. Is the OGSM set to ‘Draft’? Then the participants can change all items. Is the OGSM set to ‘Active’? Then as a participant you can only change the items that you own.
In the OGSM and the Action Plan, the titles above the columns remain visible when you scroll down.
The owner’s picture is back. This makes it clear more quickly who owns a strategy or action. You can set a picture in the profile.

January 2023

You can adjust the view and set filters in the OGSM, the action plan and the report. We will remember that setting from now on. When you come back later, you will see the same view on screen.
In the action plan you can group the actions by Owner, Strategy or Tag.
In the OGSM you can expand the strategies. This was not clear to everyone, so we now indicate this with an arrow.
Do you create a progress report? Then we will already set today’s date for you.
And from now on we will regularly update you on the latest changes.

In your profile there is the possibility to change the initials of your name, so that there is no confusion if several people have the same initials.
In the action plan you can now also create actions directly in the columns ‘To do’ or ‘Busy’.
The menu on the left now has labels and can be collapsed.
We have made a visual distinction between titles and descriptions in the OGSM.
It is now possible to update the measurements of indicators from an external source.

November 2022

At the end of November we launched a completely new version of the OGSM tool. What has changed?

The appearance. The OGSM tool has a completely new design. Our starting point was to make the tool attractive and user-friendly.
Now also on mobile. We have developed all screens based on use on mobile devices. Of course, creating an OGSM won’t be done very quickly on mobile, but you can now read or add a progress report and make a change.
Help is immediately available. You now always have the right information at your disposal with a click on the help button. Click the button with the question mark. And if you can’t find a solution, you can send your question directly to the helpdesk.
Lots of details that make the use just that little bit better or more convenient. Get started and you will discover them yourself.
